
Google two step verification protects you from hackers and password theft, as it requires both your password and an authentication code while logging in. Google authenticator app provides you a two step verification by displaying a code that changes every thirty seconds. The app is working even if your device is offline. So here is a guide on how to enable Google two step verification by enabling Google authenticator. Try following steps:
- First of all, to activate two step verification,
- go to the account settings page.
- Log in to your Google account and from sign in and security, go to “Signing in to Google” link.
- Now in the password & sign in method, select “”2-step verification.
- A screen will be displayed now, click on “Get started”
- Enter your password and sign in.
- You will be asked for a phone-based verification, even if you are using the app. This phone number will be your backup phone number. You will receive the code either by text or phone call.
- You may also get a notification pop with the verification code, if you have enabled the notification. Otherwise see your message inbox.
- Enter the code and click Next.
- Now click “Turn On” to finish turning on 2 step verification.
- Now log out and try to log in again. When you type the password, you will also get a text message with a six-digit code. Enter the code to complete the two-step verification.
Enable Google Authenticator
Now, when the 2-step verification is complete it is time to enable Google Authenticator. Do the following:
- In your browser go to 2-step verification page and click “Set up” under authentication app.
- From the dialog box, select the type of phone you have. Click “Next”
- The screen will now display a QR code or a bar code. Scan it with the Google Authenticator app.
- Now install the Google Authenticator app on your phone.
- Open the app. Tap the “+” sign on the main Authenticator screen.
- Click “Scan barcode” on the pop up that comes at the bottom of the screen.
- Now your camera is activated and you’ll be able to see a green box. To read the QR code, aim the green box at OR code.
- You can see your newly added account in the Authenticator app. Note the code for your account.
- Once your account is added, you’ll have to type in the generated code.
- Go back to your computer and click “Next”.
- Now enter the code from the app on the set up authenticator dialog box and verify.
- Click done.
- Your app is now added to the list of second verification steps.
- It is now a part of your two verification method.
